Preface

A breakthrough in weight management.

For decades, weight loss was treated as a question of willpower. We now know it’s also a question of biology. GLP-1 therapy is changing how we understand and approach weight management. In repeated clinical trials, it has delivered sustained weight loss that diet and exercise alone almost never produce.

This guide explains the science, the evidence, and whether it may be right for you.

The fundamentals

A hormone that regulates appetite.

GLP-1 (short for glucagon-like peptide-1) is a hormone naturally released after meals. Its role is simple: to signal fullness, regulate blood sugar, and tell the brain when enough food has been consumed.

In many people struggling with excess weight, these signals do not function as effectively as they should. Hunger persists. Cravings remain. Eating less becomes a constant battle.

GLP-1 therapy works by strengthening these natural signals, helping patients feel satisfied with less and making sustained weight loss possible.

The mechanism

Four changes, working in concert.

GLP-1 therapy does not rely on restriction or willpower. Instead, it works with four interconnected systems that influence how we eat, how full we feel, and how our bodies manage energy.

The four mechanisms
i.
Appetite
Reduces hunger, so you feel less driven to eat between meals.
ii.
Fullness
You feel full sooner, and that fullness lasts longer.
iii.
Blood Sugar
Blood sugar stays more steady, with fewer energy crashes.
iv.
Cravings
Cravings happen less often, and feel less intense.
“The most remarkable effect is often not eating less.
It’s thinking about food less.

The realistic timeline

A timeline you can plan around.

The first changes are often felt before they are seen. In the first 4 to 6 weeks, many patients notice reduced hunger, fewer cravings, and improved control around food.

In clinical trials, patients achieved about 10 to 15 percent weight loss at 6 months and 15 to 20 percent at 12 months. With continued treatment, many reached 25 to 30 percent.

Once a target weight is reached, the medication is gradually tapered. The long-term approach to health and weight continues, supported by lifestyle and ongoing care. The objective is sustainable weight loss.

The specific therapies

Two medications. Both clinically proven.

All medications in the Bloom Empower programme are approved by Singapore’s Health Sciences Authority (HSA). There is no one-size-fits-all approach. Your doctor will recommend the therapy best suited to your health, goals, and clinical picture after a full consultation.

The Safety Profile

What the evidence shows.

GLP-1 medications have been studied for over fifteen years and prescribed to millions of patients worldwide. For most people, treatment is well tolerated and the safety profile is well established.

Common, generally mild. Reduced appetite, occasional nausea, bloating, and mild constipation may occur during the first few weeks of treatment. These symptoms are usually temporary and improve as the body adapts.

Rare, monitored carefully. Other side effects such as pancreatitis, gallbladder issues, or thyroid concerns are very rare, and we keep them so by assessing your medical history, screening for risk factors, and monitoring your progress throughout treatment.

With you, every step. From dose adjustments to side effect management, your doctor remains involved throughout the programme, keeping treatment safe and right for you.

Common myths

The myths, and the facts.

Myth 01
GLP-1 is just for vanity weight loss.
GLP-1 therapy delivers measurable improvements in metabolic health, cardiovascular risk, blood pressure, and long term wellness. For most patients, the visible weight change is only the surface of a deeper shift in overall health, with improvements that compound over years and benefit the body well beyond the mirror.
Myth 02
You will gain it all back when you stop.
Most patients successfully maintain the majority of their weight loss long after the medication is reduced or stopped. The programme is designed precisely for this: gradual transition, continued medical support, and the healthy habits built throughout the programme that produce sustainable results for the years that follow.
Myth 03
It is just a shortcut.
GLP-1 is not a shortcut. It is a medical treatment that restores natural appetite signals. When these signals stop working, hunger persists and cravings intensify. The patient remains at the centre of the work, building the habits, mindset, and rhythms of a healthier life. The medication makes that work possible; it does not replace it.
