GLP-1 Therapy,
explained in detail.
An evidence based introduction to the most studied class of weight loss medication in modern medicine. What it is, how it works, who it is right for, and what to honestly expect.
A field in transition.
In the last three years, the medical conversation about weight loss has changed more fundamentally than in the previous three decades. Medications originally developed for type 2 diabetes have been shown, in repeated clinical trials, to deliver sustained weight loss that diet and exercise alone almost never produce.
This guide is our attempt to slow the conversation back down. Written for the patient who wants to understand the science before deciding. No claims that the evidence does not support. No marketing pressure. Just the answers we would give a member of our own family.
A hormone your body already makes.
GLP-1, short for glucagon-like peptide-1, is a hormone naturally produced in the gut. Its primary job is to regulate blood sugar after meals and signal to the brain that you are full.
In many people with obesity, the natural GLP-1 response is blunted. Meals end without a clear sense of fullness. Cravings persist. GLP-1 receptor agonists, the medications used in Bloom Empower, restore what the body has stopped doing well.
Four changes, working in concert.
GLP-1 therapy works through four interconnected mechanisms, none of which involve restriction or willpower. Each one supports a part of the metabolic system that has fallen out of balance.
but as a silence achieved. The food noise stops."
A timeline you can plan around.
Most patients see visible changes within the first 4 to 6 weeks. Sustained results appear at 3 to 6 months. By month 12, most patients achieve 15 to 20 percent body weight reduction. With continued treatment, weight loss often continues at a slower pace into the second and third year, with many patients reaching 25 to 35 percent total body weight reduction.
Two medications. Both clinically proven.
All Bloom Empower medications are approved by Singapore's Health Sciences Authority (HSA). Your specific medication is selected during the consultation, based on your clinical picture, goals, and tolerance.
What we monitor, and why.
GLP-1 medications have been in use for over fifteen years. The safety profile is well established and, for the vast majority of patients, the medications are well tolerated. We monitor every patient closely throughout the programme to catch and manage any issues early.
Common, generally mild. Gastrointestinal symptoms during dose escalation — reduced appetite, occasional nausea, mild constipation. Typically resolve within 4 to 6 weeks.
Rare, monitored carefully. Pancreatitis, gallbladder issues, and thyroid concerns have been studied extensively. Absolute risk remains low. We screen for risk factors and monitor throughout.
